Smoked paprika
Paprika ground from peppers smoked over a wood fire before milling, with a distinct smoky note, mild to hot.
Smoked paprika comes mainly from Spain and is not the same as classic Hungarian paprika, which is unsmoked. It is sold in larger supermarkets, spice shops and online, often in sweet, bittersweet and hot versions.
Substitute:
Sweet paprika with a pinch of smoked salt comes close; paprika alone gives colour and sweetness but no smoke.
