sweet pointed pepper
A pale yellow-green to whitish pepper with thin walls and a pointed shape, mild and slightly sweet, the Hungarian staple for lecsó and stuffed peppers.
The pale Hungarian pepper is easiest to find in Turkish or Eastern European grocers, where a similar variety is sold as çarliston, and at summer markets. Red pointed peppers from the supermarket also work but are sweeter and more fleshy.
Substitute:
Pale green çarliston peppers come closest; red or yellow pointed peppers or ordinary bell peppers also work but make the dish sweeter and more colourful and lose the slightly grassy note.
